Should I rewatch it?

I saw it at a sleepover when I was nine years old. My friend had an older brother who had drawers full of horror VHS we would cons toy sneak out of his room to watch lol. Basically this filmed scared the crap out of me, I didn't sleep properly for two weeks, made me more scared of clowns than I was before and I've blocked most of the film from my mind. All I really remover is the washing line scene, blood comin out of a sink and the drainpipe scene where he rips that boys arms off.

I e basically avoided the film for years but recently with all this talk of the remake images and reports of the film are popping up. I'm thinking of reading the book, should I rewatch the film?

I'd definitely give it a rewatch. It's very likely you won't find it as scary as you remember, but if anything you'll get a load of nostalgia out of it. Tim Curry is wonderful as Pennywise and the child actors are all very good for a made-for-TV film.

I've rewatching movies that scared me as a kid and ended up loving them.

I made that mistake. I saw it when I was five years old. (My sister thought it'd be funny). It ruined my childhood.

I rewatched it when I was around 15, because people said it would make it less scary for me. DID NOT WORK. Now, the nightmares are just more vivid, and I remember way more.

Here is the thing. I read about people saying that they made penny wise not scary because he jokes around like a funny clown but I see it differently. He jokes but his joking around is done in such a way that it sounds completely sinister and menacing. This movie was the first one I ever saw where I was introduced to the concept of the evil clown and I was amazed. Tim curry did an excellent job at being menacing. The scene with the scrap book was great and although this movie never upset or scared me to have nightmares I was impressed at how good the penny wise character came off. This clown that was just not creepy but just cruel. He is flipping down the street in the album then just growls at them and threatens them when he jumps on the light post. Tim curry managed to play a wonderful inversion of what a clown was traditionally supposed to be. Just that laugh is full of menace. People say they hated the library scene because it was to comical but I just saw menace. When penny wise chuckles and says I got a balloon for you it is creepy. His joking around is complete mockery.

The scary clown doll is hiding under my bed.
