The policeman tells Roy, "There was a lot of money in the trunk." Well, who gets that money? Does the police conficate it for a period of time. Is there an investigation? Does Bobo have a right to it?
As next of kin, Roy probably would have gotten the money, but only after a thorough investigation (which could take a very long time). The police would have to look into seeral possibilities: was the money stolen? Was Mommy Dearest holding it for someone? If several months/ a few years passed without anyone claiming the money, the police would give it to Roy, but Lilly couldn't wait that long to collect.
Right, but the point was, he didn't need the money right away anyway. He was saving the money - that huge amount - behind the clown pictures. It's not as if he was using it for anything. He could've waited a few months, and gotten this money, no problem.
I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.
In the book, the cop asks Roy if he has any interest in claiming his mother's money after warning him that there were no taxes paid on it and it would be investigated. Roy tells the cop he has absolutely no interest in claiming the money, the reason being (which he does not tell the cop) that he doesn't need it.
