Would it be so easy to trick bartenders by showing a $20?

I find it hard to believe that too many people would just take whatever bill you gave them after you previously flashed a $20.
Hell, if it's that easy, why give them a $10? Why not just a $1?
I'm not saying it's impossible that someone wouldn't look at the bill, but I think most people would look at it as they were taking it, like the last guy who hit him.

I had heard of the trick before I saw the film, but I doubt it would work - I've often changed the note I had in my hand for other reasons (like realising I had a smaller note), and I sometimes wonder if the worker thinks it's a scam, but they never give you extra change, lol.

One 'scam' I witnessed was a woman saying she had handed over a 20 and was backed by a random 'customer' - later I saw them walking together elsewhere.

It's kind of a hand is quicker than the eye scheme, where people don't even look twice. I worked for this carnival where they will keep a ball in the bucket and let the one ball hit the other, than you bring two out and say if you play again i'll count the first one. I couldn't do it, I was called out a couple times and couple times people actually hit with me lol

I agree. I never understood how this would work in real life. The first job I had dealing with money, my boss taught me how to count back change and step one was putting that they gave you on the buttons on the register, opening the drawer, giving the change and then putting the customers currency in the drawer. Was that spawned from this kind of con? Maybe but it sure made it hard for anyone to refute what they gave you vs. change.
