Does Brontë go?
In true Peter Wier style, the movie ends without a "Hollywood" conclusion. I love the movie, but am always torn by the ending. So, my question: Do you think Brontë goes to France? I think she does.

She definitely goes to France. I loved this film and the heartbreak at the end will be mended. You could see that both Gerard Depardieu and Andie MacDowell came to the realization of what they wanted most out of life.

She does go at the end I hope.
This is a good film that I didn't see until it came on DVD a little while back.
Of course she went! Just have to take a look at Frances country side, its a huge garden. Besides, people deeply in love do that.
shareThis movie was just on... and I found myself wishing there had been a Part II or some sort of a wrap-up to find out about what happened to their characters.
I definitely think she went to France. She already said she didn't want the apartment anymore (not without George)... her boyfriend, Phil has left (not that she loves him anymore anyway)... I just don't think htere's anything really keeping her in America. And you're right, I think there would be a lot more gardening opportunities than there would be in New York City.
I love this movie.
illegitimus non carborundus - don't let the bastards wear you down
I think she goes as the song in the background has the lyrics "everything's going to be alright" or something similar to that.
shareI'd like to think they end up together. Can't believe this film is 16 years old now. It doesn't seem to date at all.
I would love to see a sequel. They make so many sequels to rubbish films and not enough of decent ones.

Of course she does, remember, "When are you coming, Cherie?" plus, hes georgeous. of course she'd go to France. :D
shareI think she goes too. And Gerard was totally hot in this movie. I wish they had made a second one. Also, doesn't Andie McDowell look just about the same as she did 16 years ago? She doesn't seem to age at all.
shareI have watched this movie countless times and I watched it again last night. The ending doesn't bother me at all because I know they end up together otherwise they would have chosen a different song in the ending of the movie. It is a fun movie and I never get tired of it. The apartment, the music, the story line, I too would do a lot of things to have an apartment like that! I also would love to see a sequel even though it has been 16 years it would be wonderful.
I totally agree with you there, George is hot. I would have kissed him.
sharei wish there could have been a better ending. one that shows us whether bronte really goes to france. i hope she does! i would love to watch a sequel of this movie!
sharePeople, you must start watching films until the credits end. All will be revealed.
sharewhy? what happens??
shareShe would probably go but hate living there and leave him after he has his second heart attack. You can't change a man. But the story the way it was is just fine. Anybody agree with that?
shareI thought it was a definite that she is going because she put the wedding ring back on as if to confirm their marriage.

I think you are full of it!
shareI adored this film! Easy watching, lovely story and some hilarious moments "its not Mozart", "birdseed" and "a politically ballet" had me laughing out loud. I think Deperdieu and MacDowell had great chemistry in this film, and Bronte definetley went to France as a) she put the ring back on and b) Georges said "When are you coming Cherie?" which was a note on their false letters to one another. Loved it!
shareAAAAAARRRRRRGGGG i just watched again..fast farwared through the credits.. nothing!!!!! the dvd goes to the main menu!!!
what happens??

She will go to france, but i love the fact that the movie doesn't show it. The lack of a conventional ending is what makes this film one of my favourite romances, and i would hate to see a sequel; it would just spoil the speculation.
‘I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man swear he loves me.’ :P
