I didn't see it but heard about the ending thru another review. Basically FFC removes the actual death scene of Michael alone with the puppy dogs and switches it to a scene of just him, older and alone, but still alive and a final screen with words stating that he was condemned to live out his life without redemption, alone, and haunted. To me that's a big SO WHAT? I could have inferred that with the original ending when he finally croaks.
The original ending was much better and more emotional. He died alone, a contrast to how his father died. I just finished watching Coda and I am very disappointed. I expected some brand new scenes too and a wow of an ending. What was the point in this? Waste on money. :-(
