If you look under the surface, you will see Wal-Mart finds ways of skirting around the theme of catering to family values.

Wal-Mart carries a variety of unrated films on DVD, which are the uncut, non-theatrical versions. These unrated versions are much heavier on violence, gore, and other themes. These unrated versions are heavier on elements that had to be cut out for their MPAA rated counterparts. In a lot of cases, Wal-Mart will carry the rated versions alongside of the unrated versions. This certainly isn't carrying "the most censored version available." I've even seen the NC-17 rated "Tie Me Up Tie Me Down" at a local Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart came under pressure when certain groups demanded they not carry "Brokeback Mountain." In the end Wal-Mart didn't give way to the pressure, and they decided to carry the film on DVD. Hmm, doesn't sound like a case of censorship to me.

I have a love-hate relationship with Wal-Mart, so please don't think I am here to promote them. I even banned the company for a period of time, due to lousy service in one of their stores. I am just here to report the actual facts.

The R-rated film "Lust For A Vampire" is getting very scarce on DVD, since it's been out of print for a few years. I relentlessly searched many sources for a copy that was priced within reason. I found that copy through Wal-Mart, and I bought the very last copy the Wal-Mart "empire" had! I guess I'd have to say I'm thankful I could find "Lust For A Vampire" through them.
