It's obvious the filmmakers knew of Richad Ramirez, the real-life Night Stalker and his crimes. There are similarities between Patrick Channing and Ramirez. Both were arrogant and obnoxious, and both worshipped the Devil. Ramirez also drew pentagrams at the scene of his murders and had one tatooed on the palm of his hand. He also loudly proclaimed his allegiance to Satan while on trial. But so far, Ramirez hasn't risen from the grave like Channing did so I guess he didn't have The First Power.
sharewell I would not say Ramirez had the first power but just the characteristic those two have
shareI definitely got a "Night Stalker" vibe. They just traded the vampire angle for a man involved with the occult a la "Spellbinder." I was also thinking of the real-life Richard Ramirez case from 1984-85 (which someone else noted), along with the body-changing angle in Los Angeles of "The Hidden."
