so why did the spirt of the Gemini possessing the old lady at the cop's house lose control?

whether the Gemini spirit possessing the old lady at the cop's family home, why did the Gemini spirit in the old lady lose control and fall to the ground anyway?

did it do that on purpose or what?

I'm guessing because of Father Morning's appearance at the cell to do the exorcism. The Gemini killer was still semi-linked to Karras' body so whatever went on with Karras would still affect him even if he was venturing off through someone else since he already built fifteen years of reactivity in Karras.
