Prosthetic makeup

I feel the movie was weakened by Beatty's decision not to wear makeup and take the Tracy profile. Pacino's and Hoffman's performances weren't hampered by the heavy makeup by even one notch. I just couldn't swallow Beatty as Tracy. Otherwise I really liked it after seeing it again last night.

I prefer my Dick Tracy with a hawk nose and jutting jaw as well.

Yes, his acting was good, but he didn't look the part. Ralph Byrd, on the other hand looked almost exactly like Dick Tracy as he looked in the comics.

Mandy Patinkin, who played Mahoney's pianist, looked almost exactly like the carton Tracy, back then.
