A 135 minute version of the film exists as confirmed by Warren Beatty

A 135 minute version of the film exists as confirmed by Warren Beatty in an interview in 2002. He was forced to cut the film to the current 105 minute version at the insistence of then chairman of The Walt Disney Studios' Jeffrey Katzenberg, prior to the release. Hopefully dvd release 1 day.

Perhaps some of the 30 extra minutes explains why it was such a big deal that the Kid gave Tracy back his badge after taking it out of his dresser. I've never understood that scene:(

It may also explain why Tracy saves Bug Bailey from the cement, camera cuts away to villians, and when it cuts back Bailey is gone and Tracy is inexplicably covered in cement.

What's there to explain? Tracy pulls Bug out and takes his place to trick the bad guys. I don't see any need to add extra footage there.

What interview from 2002 did Beatty say there was a 135 minute cut? At a recent forum, Beatty said outright that he had final cut and that the stories of a longer cut are B-S.

@baheidstu-351-733122 Tracy pulls Bug out and takes his place to trick the bad guys.
Seems like a pretty stupid way to trick anyone - not only did he put himself in the same predicament that was going to kill Bug, but his gun could no longer fire.

I hope Texie Garcia (Catherine O'Hara) has more to do in that edit.

@bpmct Well, Kid stole Dick Tracy's wallet when he escaped from the "welfare society" at the door. After saving Tracy from the exploding boiler room, he gives Tracy his wallet back.

So the big deal was that Kid returned the wallet to its rightful owner - he was starting to change from being a thief to being a decent person who does the right thing. By the end of the movie he becomes someone who wants to chase criminals.
