dick tracy 2

apparently warren beatty is trying to make "dick tracy 2". I hope it doesn't get made. I liked the original, but after 26 years, I think it should be left alone, too much time has passed. we don't need (imo) dick tracy 2

Surprisingly, bearing in mind that few of them were spring chickens at the time, most of the cast are still alive, apart from Charles Durning.

Then again, since Tracy killed most of the villains in the first film, I'm not sure who'd come back for the sequel.

Speaking about it being 26 years old, makes me feel old, seeing as I vividly remember seeing this film at the cinema back in 1990.

As for a sequel, I'll believe it when I see it since Beatty has been talking about this for years, but I'm sure I'll go see it if it's made. The first one is still a blast and I have every faith in Beatty as a filmmaker. That said, I honestly don't think it will ever happen. Would Disney even finance it, seeing as the original was seen by the then hierarchy as a bit of a financial disappointment (albeit not a flop)?

Uh, Michael J. Pollard is still alive, the last time that I checked!

Oops! I'll re-edit my post.

Thank you for the correction.

Well, that's good to read.  I like him as an actor.

My biggest fear is that the sequel will be a CGI fest.

The visuals of the original were so memorable given the exaggerated, practical cartoon sets. A CGI set would lose that charm

But yeah, ultimately, I hope they don't go through with it.

I'd have Beatty direct and maybe have him appear in a cameo passing the mantle down to his son 'Dick Tracy Jr.' or something to that effect. I'd also have The Kid show up as an adult in some capacity or another, as an ally to Tracy.

I think The Kid becomes Dick Tracy Jr. in the original film. There's a running statement by Tracy for the Kid to pick a name. When Tracy get framed, and is in jail, the Kid visits him and surprises Tracy by showing him the certificate for his now-legal name of "Dick Tracy Jr."

If Beatty can actually get a sequel made, it could possibly be a nice send-off for Beatty's acting career. Kinda like how Gran Torino was a nice send-off for Clint Eastwood's acting career (still a great and capable director though).

The sequel should definitely acknowledge Tracy getting older, and the Kid/Junior would ideally have to be the supporting character who would physically take on whatever villains it's decided to go with.

Tracy himself could confront the villain/villains near the end of the film, but there should most assuredly be some build up to that where the Detective decides to close the case. One last time.

Given his admiration for the comics, that wouldn't be too bad of an idea to cap off his acting career with a Dick Tracy sequel.

By the way, His partner's name is Chest Rockwell!
