hey when was the last time you saw a NASCAR Cup driver celebrate a victory by carrying the chequered flag around the track? Seems to me that since at least thethe 1980's they just head for victory lane and the money! Donuts, and a "Kulwicki' or reverse lap for a first-time winner, maybe....But driving around with the flag? Sheesh!
several races this year it's been done, most recently that i've seen, kyle busch in the charlotte busch race, jimmie johnson at the coca-cola 600, and greg biffle at dover. so it still happens.
Yeah, Stewart did it at Sonoma and Daytona --- it'd be nice to see it more. The burnouts are getting to be cliche, except for Biffle smacking the wall!
The fans in the stand love it, though, so I guess that's a good thing...
I went to the Busch race at Texas in 2004 when Kenseth won ... he just drove straight to Victory Lane and tons of people around me were complaining.

Kurt Busch Bristol a few days ago...reverse victory lap too. only thing a burnout does is risk the motor floating a valve and handgrenading a $50,000 racing motor.
Martain never burned out, he does the reverse victory lap. Edwards does back-flips. Stuart climbs the fence. Its just what ever the driver wants to do. And Ive seen a few drivers take the flag.
