Extra footage...

This is the trivia from the main page:

VHS editions that were released in the 1990s had an extended pilot episode and extended final episode. The U.S. DVD set are the aired versions.

So I need help with these two things:

What's the difference between these two? I figured you hardcore fans might know.

The respective pages for each one did not list details. Do either of them contain this alleged extended pilot or extended final episode?

I checked the discussion thread on the new release; the only change is the cover art.

I'm disappointed in the extreme. I gave away the VHS tapes when I bought the original DVD set so I no longer have the extended pilot. I don't think the Chiller Channel (which currently has the rights to this series) showed the extended pilot either.

I see.

What about the ones on Youtube? The entire series is on there. Is the extended pilot one of the episodes on Youtube?

Also, speaking from a business perspective, I'm sure they released the DVDs the way they did so that they would have something extra to give fans in the future, for a more deluxe release. They want to give fans a reason to have to shell out dough yet again. It's all business, buddy. LOL

I hope that is true, but where is this new release? Not even a peep! I have not bought the 1991 series due to the complaints about the bright night scenes thanks to their removing the filter (so really, the DVDs are NOT showing them as they originally aired), and the lack of the extended scenes. My friend had them on VHS, so I have seen the longer version in all of it's night time glory since the original airings. They really need to do a proper release of this series, and right now is the time!

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

Are you certain only the cover art is different? The 2005 DVD lists the aspect ratio as 1.78, while the 2009 version lists it as 2.35 which is very bizarre considering the show was most likely shot in 1.33 fullscreen. That means the top and bottom of the picture have been chopped off for the sake of a widescreen appearance. What a shame. Most modern TV sets as well as DVD and Blu-Ray players have algorithms to stretch and resize the picture from full to wide screen without much distortion for those who can't stand black bars.

I was hoping the 2009 DVD release featured the ENTIRE picture with the correct aspect ratio, whatever the hell it is. Also, it would be wonderful if the day-to-night filters were restored so vampires weren't walking around in sunlight.

Here are all the DVD covers I could find. There may be differences between the various releases:
