Here here!
The only chance that this will happen is if MPI reacquires the distribution rights from Dan Curtis Productions and remasters the prints they created for their VHS releases, which not only included extended versions of Ep. 1 & 12, but also Victoria's opening voice-over for Ep. 3. MPI and its subsidiary label Dark Sky Films have shown a great respect for and have released many of Dan Curtis' works as they were meant to be seen and in the best quality that they can.
MGM showed a complete disrespect for the series with their atrocious recolored, matted-to-widescreen, no day-for-night DVD release. They need to relinquish the rights to this glorious series to MPI and let them do it right.
A side note. The series is available on HULU, and unlike the MGM DVD release the show is at least in the proper original 4:3 aspect ratio. Unfortunately the rest of the prints are identical since they used the same re-"masters" that MGM did for their terrible DVD release.
HULU versions
strike 1: recolored prints with WAY too much BRIGHT orange/red everywhere
strike 2: no day-for-night processing
strike 3: NBC-TV versions (as opposed to the extended MPI versions of Eps. 1,3,12)
MGM DVD versions
strike 1: matted-to-widescreen
strike 2: recolored prints with WAY too much orange/red
strike 3: no day-for-night processing
strike 4: NBC-TV versions (as opposed to the extended MPI versions of Eps. 1,3,12)
Both of these viewing options are unacceptable.
The MPI VHS versions are still the only way to truly experience the show as it was meant to be seen (albeit a little blury). Hopefully MPI will soon reaquire the series and release a sharper, clearer, properly remastered DVD and/or Blu-ray set using their extended and non-orange-tinted versions.
