...with a 4 ounce arrow fired by a recurve bow.

This is a great movie, but seeing huge bison drop dead immediately upon getting shot with a puny arrow is just bad.

Especially since it took so many arrows to incapacitate the freight-hauler early in the movie. Not consistent.

The buffalo has a very unusual respiratory set-up. If one lung gets punctured, they both stop working,and the animal suffocated very rapidly. Humans (and almost all large mammals) can continue to breathe for a while with one punctured lung. It's an anatomical oddity that worked to the Indians advantage.
