Timmons mules (spoiler)

shareIt never did show what they did - It looked like they were cutting the harnesses loose . . . I can't imagine, historically, that the Pawnee would have killed them ... I definitely don't think they would be eaten them - but, I'm not sure about that tribe ...
I wonder if there are deleted scenes of that scene in special features on the Anniversary Special Edition disc . . .
It's historically accurate that they would have taken the harnesses off the mules, because the indians were big fans of
modern leather goods of the day and would have repurposed them into everyday items.
It was better leather than they were used to.

In the movie, after they wipe out Timmons, you see the Indians hauling something away with those big poles. I always assumed it was the mule carcasses, but who knows.
The Russians had the case made. It was made. The Russians had it made. They made the case.
Equines don't taste that bad. I've eaten donkey meat a few times (both as a cut of meat and as a salami) and I heard that horse meat tastes like lean beef, only a bit sweeter. A mule would be something in between, I guess.
If Timmons had had horses, the Indians would certainly have kept them as mounts, but mules are draft animals.
You may cross-examine.

They were pulling "Travois" 2 long poles attached at one end then tie your goods to then and pull them wherever
Doubtful the Pawnee killed the mules They would have used them just like everyone else did as work animals,, When the couldn't work they'd kill it save the skin and eat the rest
