Why didn't the wolf Two Socks run from the shots?

Any wolf in real life would run if you shot at it and it saw bullets hitting the ground around it. Try it and you will see. That scene was NOT realistic at all. Animals are not that stupid. They know that bullets are dangerous.

The rescue party had him tethered, so he couldn't run off. He was bait to lure the Army guys into a trap. Notice that when the officer made the guys come back down to the wagon how frustrated the rescue party looked.

reply

Wow... if that's true, I never notied that before.

I didn't see any tether or rope around his neck. He stayed because he saw DWW and wondered what was happening to him.

reply

No. He wasn't.

I guess friendship doesn't mean much to you, or you're one of those people who think animals don't feel anything.

Two socks was acclimated to people by Dunbar. He didn't see any danger in being there. People, or at least men in uniforms, meant food to him.

Having never been shot at before, why would he fear it? He didn't understand what that was either.

I'd like to think that Two Socks was only wounded, that soldier being such a bad shot and all. That he learned that not all men are good, guns are bad and that he ran off and never approached another man again,

Unfortunately he died ;(. We see a shot of him laying in the grass without blinking. OMG I cried so hard!

I hated it when the horse and the wolf died in the movie.

I can't stay emotionally quiet when it comes to an animal's death, movies or in books. It is a huge soft spot of mine, I cry and cry and cry! I remember crying when I was 10 and saw Neverending Story.

it was clearly emotional :( I loved the horse and two socks... but they symbolized something deeper... I only watched it for the first time a day ago but despite the films long length and what seems like puttering, like all films it has deeper messages, metaphors and symbols....

maybe like the Sioux and natives in general, two socks didn't understand the threat, and was curious, in "nature" and wild and free. who knows :s..
