Timmons's death

Yes, he was a dirty, foul, uneducated SOB, but all should agree that he died a hard, painful death. What is the use of torture? The person who was tortured can't exactly testify and warn those who would come behind him. What is the point? If you want to kill someone, kill them and kill them quick. To do otherwise is plain evil.

To make you hate the other tribe... Screenwriting 101

"Toughest Pawnee" (Wes Studi) clearly had some issues. The other Pawnee even said something like 'he's not gonna stop until we are all dead', in other words he had a vendetta. The upshot of it is that you're right, 'to hate the other tribe' but in that one line it did show a backstory... which is better than cookie cutter 'bad guy'.

I thought it was Indian 101 to give your enemy a slow death, and in doing so rob his soul and gain strength from his cry's of anguish.

None of the arrows were fast kills, they were shot to slow him down and hurt, even the scalping didn't kill him immediately, he bled out

Ther are stories of this in all American Indian culture

You don't have to stand tall, but you do have to stand up!

They were living in a time when they were beginning to see the whites invade their lands & hoped that it would warn them to stay away. But waring tribes always had a history of cruelty to their enemies which was part their of beliefs. Many, many different forms of cruelty & abuse were inflicted on anyone considered the enemy. Just the way it was. They were all trying to live with the same food sources, mainly the bison, & all the hardships of nomadic living. Because of such many of their own people suffered & died. But their were a noble race, fiercely loyal & protective of their own
