She was 17, about to turn 18. She told Joanne that she was going to be on her own soon, which meant she was on the verge of aging out of the foster care system. Once she turned 18, she'd be out on the streets and have to make her own way.

The foster mom said to Kyle spend time with the family and she said no she needs the money she's gonna be on her own next year. They would make her 17. If your 18 in foster care the kids are on their own to fend for themselves.
