Couldn't Stand Any of the Adult Characters...

minus the foster sister. she was fine. but the parents and teacher were beyond out of touch. I know that was the point, but the dad especially, was unfeeling and cold. Thought it was crazy they could treat an 8 year old like that.

i thought the parents were fine, in fairness how else could you deal with a situation like that? You'd think it was just a childish fantasy and not entertain it.

The mother was fine, she was willing to give Andy a chance at first. I agree that Phil was cold and unfeeling, it was like he didn't even want Andy there in the first place.

That's something I've always found interesting about the "Child's Play" franchise. Almost everyone who gets killed is a major jerk (Phil, the teacher, the brown-nosing assistant to the CEO) who kind of have it coming. Of course I'm not trying to say murder for pleasure is a good thing, but in the Chucky universe, the world's pretty much better off without them.

Honestly, I can't remember many people in the Child's Play franchise who died that wasn't a jerk, or turned into a jerk right before their death. Is this done intentionally by Don, so that the deaths would be less disturbing? It's a maybe. I mean could you imagine if Kettlewell was a nice teacher? How much more mean-spirited would her death be?

Child's Play:

Maggie: Was a bitch to Andy.
Eddie: Involved with crime/Charles
John: Involved with voodoo/Charles
Dr. Ardmore: Jerk to Andy

Child's Play 2:

Mattson: Sleaze
Kettlewell: Bitch
Phil: Jerk
Joanne: Turned into bitch right before her death. "Get away from me!"
Grace: Turned into bitch right before her death. Manhandled Andy. "Get into my office. Is this your idea of a joke? Give me that!"

And even the one innocent victim of Chucky, the worker at the end, received a pretty quick, over the top death. It's not like Chucky stretched out his death like Mattson, Phil or Kettlewell.

Child's Play 3:

CEO: Jerk
Garbage man: Ok, this guy was a nice guy. This is only the second guy so far besides the worker in part 2.
Fat heart attack guy: Jerk
Barber: Jerk
Shelton: Jerk
Whitehurst: Not a jerk, but he didn't get killed by Chucky. It was a sacrifice.
Security guard: Not a jerk. He personally rubbed me the wrong way though. He didn't help Tyler and had a creepy smile when he brought out Chucky.

Bride:

Cop: Jerk
Damian: Not really a jerk? But a desperate, weird dude who manhandled Chucky. That's good enough.
Kincaid: Jerk
Norton: Jerk
The couple: Jerks
David: Turns into a jerk, pointing his gun at our heroes, even though we can understand his situation. Wasn't killed by Chucky though.

Now I guess the only innocent people killed are the two old people, the cemetery worker, and the detective at the end. But three of those were just shot in the head, two being offscreen.

I don't feel like getting into Seed or Curse, but I remember jerks in them too. Except Jennifer Tilly's assistant and her chauffeur.

But the point is, there aren't really any deaths that are built-up that aren't for people who had it coming. The only death that is built up where the person did not have it coming, and is by the hands of Chucky, is the garbage guy from part 3. Everybody else whose death was built up, prolonged, or fantastical, had it coming.
