The bad characters really put a damper in the film, I thought.

Just my opinion, but I thought that the characters had almost no development, and it made the film much less scary/suspenseful. I'm not saying the film is bad, but it wasn't as good as the first one.

There's an extended cut that was shown on USA/SYFY that made Phil seem like less of a jerk for at least one scene and kind of gave him a little bit more development. I think the film could have taken ten more minutes to let us know the Simpsons before Chucky killed them.

i have a lame theory that the majority of the characters are intentionally portrayed as bad because Chucky is playing the role of Andy's ID; everyone who is mean to Andy is eventually killed by Chucky. This falls kind of flat when he kills the foster mother though. also Chucky just generally likes to kill anyone Andy knows. That's why it's lame.

That was actually the original idea for the first one. Of course, it had many rewrites.

wow that's interesting to know. kinda makes me feel like they got half way with that concept and then decided to forget about it.
