code words?

A great movie, I saw it when it came out on the HBO schedule way back when. Loved the scene of the (about to be?) newly promoted President kneeling on the floor of Air Force One, on the Presidential seal emblazoned on the floor, and praying for guidance/strength!

It's driving me nuts, what were the code words the President(s) used, it was something like "Day Word" and "Action Word Jericho"?

reply

IIRC, it was Day Word Trinity, Action Word Jericho.

Gotta love Youtube, this movie is posted in installments...to correct myself, the acting President (McGavin) kneels and prays for guidance as he has to decide whether to escalate or wait to react to the nuclear exchange that's already happened.

And the Presidential Authentication code was:

Day Word: Cottonmouth Command Word: Trinity Action Word: Jericho

I was really getting into the whole code words and commands thing in this film, but then I made the mistake of watching most of the British film "Threads" on Y.tube. Yikes, *that* was scary...And my appetite for anything fictional to do with nuclear war disappeared *very* quickly on watching the plausible disintegration of society after such an event. Let us all pray...

The code words:

COTTONMOUTH, TRINITY, JERICHO.

And, if you're curious, the "defcon" style alert levels used by SAC were, in escalating order: Applejack, Snowman, Cocked Pistol, Roundhouse.

"They want us to take out the big bananas"

Powers Boothe is the man!

reply

I liked "Hooks'" comment:

"I think somebody's GONE BANANAS!!"

"Has anybody ever told you you have a SERIOUS IMPULSE CONTROL PROBLEM??"

reply

The last defcon alert (for defcon 1) was BIG NOISE.
