Pioneer Aspect Question

Does anyone else notice on the Pioneer DVD whenever you skip ahead scenes (at leat on my player) the widescreen bars at the top and bottom dissaprear for a momment and reveal that they actually have image under them.

Did pioneer just black bar the full frame release, was there even a widescreen release?

I feel cheated

It was shot like that with intended dead space at the top and bottom of the screen (just like Day of the Dead)so it could be theatrically matted. It's supposed to have the bars at the top and bottom.

yes the "mat" does actually cut out some of the screen. You can turn it off and on. I have no idea if there is even a widescreen.
