Dog scene was unintentionally funny

I never fail to laugh when the scene shows up, proving once again our most lovable mad scientist, Dr. Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs).

SPOILERS*****SPOILERS*****SPOILERS

After the resurrected angry police detective kills Francesca's dog and runs off with one of its legs, Dr. West takes the dead dog downstairs to his laboratory. He stares at the dog's corpse and also at the detective's severed forearm. He suddenly thinks up a deliciously diabolitical insane idea. He attaches the human forearm to the dog's body where it is missing its leg. You don't see this and you know that West will reanimate the dog.

Francesca comes downstairs and as she's about to enter the lab, West opens the door and confronts him. She suddenly spots her dog at West's feet. Kneeling down to joyously greet her pooch, she reaches out her hand. To her shock and horror, the dog grabs her hand with its human hand. She screams in horror as the dog won't let go and it starts growling in defiance. She breaks free and runs off, screaming.

It was pure horror schlock but it was funny.

Anyone want to venture a guess why Dan was always so devoted to his mad scientist colleague? What kind of friendship was that? Dan was overawed by Herbert's mad genius and probably had a non-gay 'man-crush' on Herbert.

How exactly is that "unintentionally" funny? I'm pretty sure it was conceived as a joke.

I personally started cracking up when I saw the setup...lol.

Dead dog... Hmmm... Dead arm... Hmmm...

I started laughing there and then (knowing that Herbert has the impulse control of a gnat!)! XD
