Note to Anchor Bay...Special Edition immediately!

So it seems this lost gem will languish in an R-rated skeletal DVD for the time being. I remember a pink covered special edition a few years back but it's totally out of print. With 2 special edition versions of the first Re-Animator from Anchor Bay being released in the past 10 years...now is the time for the sequel to get equal treatment! And companies wonder why fans go overseas or buy bootlegs to find the movies that they want to own. Any one feel the same way?

reply

YES! I have the original Re-animator DVD packed with bonus features and then i bought Bridee which is very bone dry and even the movie itself looks old when you watch it, needs to be remastered! Come on bring it on!

I would love another special edition too from AB. Last I heard, they're still considering obtaining the rights to it.

My dream is to have a boxset of all 3 - the original Re-An, Bride, and Beyond, loaded with special features. :)

I just revisited this bad boy (just in time for Halloween) & was saddened by how POOR the Artisan DVD's picture looks. the audio isn't all that good either.

The movie was a lot of fun...the climax was creepy, gory & a bit scary (something about a bunch of demented body part anomalies freaks me out).

C'mon AB...put it out! I'll buy! I promise!

Pioneer released a Special Edition version before the Artisan release which was really good. Unfortunately it is a very rare find now.

The R rated cut on the Pioneer release has adequate picture quality; nothing special though, however the unrated cut on the flip side of the disk is the same vhs bootleg quality as the later Artisan disk. It's a shame really because they could have very easily included the censored shots into the R rated version via branching. As far as the R rated print goes it definitely offered the best image quality in comparison to the likes of the UK Tartan disk, and the extras were great.

as one of the better horror sequels around I think it should definitely get a great uncut release with a fantastic transfer and crammed with extras

In the meantime Second Sight in the UK may be able to give us something extra with their "Re-animator"/"Bride of Re-animator" BD set which they're working on.
