Why did he knock the TV on the floor?
There were like 4-5 spiders on the TV and its not like killing those 4-5 spiders was gonna do any good. Why damage an expensive object?
What is that thing you're using?.... It's technical.

Well it wasn't a Bang & Olufsen. Maybe it was on its way out anyway. Nothing is built to last these days lol

It was probably a comment on the power of the media, and how it corrupts. If you think about it, the time when people are least attentive to the world around them is when they watch TV - except when they are sleeping of course. Today one would probably include being on the internet. Do you notice any spiders around you right now? No? Good. The mortician and his wife dies while watching Wheel of Fortune, and is it any accident that the spiders are crawling over the face of Michael J Fox's money obsessed character from that sit com Family Ties?
It is funny that the doctor and his family escapes from "the office politics, the stress" of San Fransican life to a supposedly more original way of life, but people are still as money obsessed - also noticeable by how the policeman wants the doctor to pay a parking ticket, to how the elderly doctor ordes the nice old woman unnecccesary prescription drugs.
In fact the spider invasion is symbolic of the nature of capitalism. An unstoppable force that gets into every possible crack and corner of society and uproots communities. But it fools people by building impressive propaganda, like the spiders spin their spiderwebs. As such it is an inversion of the fifties monster movies which played on the fear of communism.
