Milton most likely wasn't harmed by the spiders. The spiders at that point had killed everyone in that radius. The last being the fat Mortician and his wife. The Jennings home was where they were going to swarm. Milton was probably waiting to hear the outcome of the quarantining procedure made by Dr. Atherton. He would have been prepared to go all out and get the military if things had gone differently for Ross in the cellar.
