They never left anything open ended so there was no direct hook to a sequel, But it would be easy enough to get a spider into society and build from there. Fruit being transported or something
shareIt would be easy enough to make a sequel. Perhaps some colleagues from Atherton's university decided to give the Venezuelan habitat a look after what happened at the Jennings' place, and go from there (albeit a slight rehash, and you'd have to explain how they let a spider come back in someone's luggage yet again, but yeah). There could also be something about the spiders changing sex or developing reproductive organs in order to continue the lineage if there's no other valid method of doing so, sort of like how the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park began to breed again despite there only being females.
