Was the Jack Neely character based on 'Earthquake Mcgoon" who was shot down over Dien Bien Phu while flying for the CIA in 1954?
shareThat is exactly what sprang into my mind too when I watched the movie. I am inclined to think that this character was indeed based on McGoon, although McGoon was noted for his big black beard.
