Did You Know?

Did you know there's a bad audio 'edit' in dialog in the video releases (vhs/dvd) of this film from the original theatrical version? Allow me to explain because it's a point of hilarity between my friends and me.

Near the beginning of the movie (video release) when Ford Fairlane enters the nightclub his voiceover/narration says, "I'm so terrifical I even have my own toll-free number...1-800-'unbelievable'." Listen to the word 'unbelievable'. It's dubbed in over the original phone number which was "I'm so terrifical I even have my own toll-free number...1-800 -'PERFECT'."

The reason of this change, I assume, is that the original phone number could actually be dialed since the word 'perfect' has 7 characters that could've been dialed. My guess is that when the movie was released in the summer of 1990 that fans noted this and called it.

For those of us who have the original soundtrack, the theme "Unbelievable" performed by Yello keeps the 1-800-PERFECT intact.

At the start of this trivial matter, I called the audio edit 'bad'. It sounds like a cut and paste job of dialog. The word 'unbelievable' was lifted from another source. It may not even be Dice's voice.

Just some trivia for you Fairlane fans out there.

I remember seeing this in the theatres when it actually did say, "1-800-PERFECT". I noticed that they changed this when it came out on VHS and later on DVD. The "unbelievable" they dubbed in does sound like Dice. I imagine it's from some part of the movie I don't remember, or from a recording of one of his standup acts.

I tried calling that number once, and got Perfect Mortgage. I suppose they complained.

I'm glad to see someone else noticed that. I thought I might have been going crazy, I kept telling my best friend that he said perfect in the movie. I quoted this movie for years but no one ever knew what I was talking about.

So many *******...so few bullets..
