Diego+Victoria
I haven't seen the last few episodes of this series, but did Diego ever get the girl?
If God was a villain.... he'd be me.

I never saw the ending either and I am probably in the minority who wish he didn't. I liked Victoria, quite a bit, actually, but Victoria and Diego never seemed "right" together and the relationship with Zorro was based on fantasy and the whole mystery thing instead of something real.
The episode I always wished I seen, expecially now since I've heard something about it, was the final episode with Michael Tylo as the Alcalde.
So how many episodes did you watch? I've seen all of them over and over again and yes, Devils Fortress was awesome. Thats the last ep with Luis Ramon in it.
If you watched the last season you would have seen that Diego and Victorias relationship with eachother was about to change. They got more daring wuth the series in the last season. Sadly it got canceled before we got any answers and the last episode leaves us hanging in a brutal and cruel way! I can't believe they did that to the show!
grr
Man, I *loved* this show as a kid. My brother and I watched it religiously.
I agree with explorer though, even as a kid I never liked the Diego/Victoria relationship (or, rather, the Diego/Victoria/Zorro love triangle...). I never thought that Diego/Zorro and Victoria had much chemistry, and like explorer, I thought that their relationship seemed to be based on something unreal, and that Victoria was mainly interested in Zorro because of the adventure of it.
But then again, I'm not sure if I ever did watch the last series, so I'll take mrcodfish's word for it that the relationship got more interesting towards the end.

The way this series ended really sucked. There were 4 episodes that together were known as "The Conspiracy of Blood". Basically, Diego's evil twin brother came to LA and wreaked havoc. It was a horrible soap operish plot, especially since they had already done the 'evil(er) twin brother' thing with the 1st alcalde, Luis Ramon in the 2nd season ("White Sheep of the Family").
The final scene of the series has Diego, Don Alejandro, Felipe, & Victoria standing around discussing & questioning what had happened during the last 4 eppies. Diego acts like he is going to tell them he is Zorro, but Felipe stops him with a shake of his head. Instead Diego announces he is going to adopt Felipe to everyone's delight.
But something is still nagging Don Alejandro and Diego says that he has something to tell him that he has needed to for a very long time. Then Diego & Don Alejandro TURN & WALK AWAY from Felipe & Victoria. And that's it.
It really, really, really sucked. No unmasking, no getting the girl, no dramatic climax to such an exciting series. Just a rehash of recent events and the announcement to adopt Felipe.
Evidently there were budgetary concerns since major backers had pulled their support of the series. Considering that is was filmed on location in Spain, its budget must have been enormous for a cable TV series. That is why the 4th season only lasted 13 (unlucky) episodes instead of the 25 episodes the other 3 seasons ran. They threw together the "Conspiracy of Blood" arc at the last minute in case they ran out of money, thinking they could use it for the series finale if need be. Unfortunately, they did.
They also changed a lot of things that had been established in earlier episodes, like Diego being born in Spain instead of California that was mentioned in "Palomarez Returns". And that his mother's name was Elena instead of Felicidad, which was used in the 1st season episode "The Unhappy Medium".
I was very unhappy how this series ended, with a crappy, slapped together finale that didn't do the series justice. Then I was really ticked when a few months later, they did the same thing with Quantum Leap. Its finale stunk too.
Thanks for letting me vent!
Marquita,
Don't blame you! A very frustrating finale.
Unlike some of the other writers posting under this thread, I felt that Diego/Zorro and Victoria had a very strong mutual bond - basic beliefs in goodness and justice, and I thought the actors conveyed much warmth and sincerity in portraying the romance. Felt that the show was slowly developing the romance, and that gave the characters and their relationship more depth. A shame it ended so abruptly, due to lack of financing. Such a great show, too.
Don't know if you are aware of the New World Zorro Fan Fiction page on Yahoo.com, there are lots of good stories and references to other links with good stories based on the New World Zorro series, written by fans. And you can write your own and post, if you choose.
The owners of Zorro productions should at least re-issue the series as a DVD!
Feel they have neglected this great show in more than one regard - have often wondered why....
Best wishes, Sky
I'm quite aware of the NWZ Fanfiction page. I'm the one who started it. Unfortunately, I no longer have anything to do with it because of a conflict with one member who is a very unpleasant person.
I have written 15 post series fanfics which came be found on fanfiction.net under the pen name pamz. I also have my own webpage where I have posted my stories http://www.mppoland.com/zorro.html
In my stories, I have Victoria become more aware of Diego and her feelings for him begin to change. Of course, she is terribly conflicted because of her feelings for Zorro too. Quite a few of my stories are also Felipe-centric mainly because of the actor who portrayed him, Juan Diego Botto. He has turned out to be quite a nice looking man. Plus the character of Felipe is easy for me to write.
I keep hoping that this series will be released on DVD but I'm not going to hold my breath.
If shows have to be cancelled then why can't they end it with the hero getting the girl, the unmasking and the beginning of a happy ending. There that is all I ask for then they may cancel the show.
shareI hope so!
There was the episode The Devil's Fortress.
Where you see the grandfather with his grandchild, they are descendents of Zorro, so Zorro had a wife or girlfriend, whatever! Also in the episode, Victoria's father asks Victoria if there is a man in her life, she says yes, he says: marry him and have children!
So I think they got together later on... :)
I read somewhere that Zorro proposed to Victoria and of course she said yes but like I just read, the show was cancelled before anyone could get any answers or see Victoria's reaction to knowing Zorro's identity. All we can do is write about it and wonder.
I loved that show since I was a child and I still remember the theme song and the romantic chemistry between Victoria/Diego/Zorro.
Yeah I know what you meant. It would've been cool seeing where their relationship would've progressed once Victoria knew Diego was Zorro. Still though most people think that when a hero reveals his identity to too many people, even his love interest, he loses his mystique.
Still though if you take into account all the versions of Zorro, Antonio Banderas' "Zorro", Isabel Allende's novel "Zorro", the original "Zorro" dime novels from the 1920s, etc., Diego & Victoria's relationship could factor in either way.
True but I wish that if the show had to be cancelled that it could have ended with Victoria and Diego finally together facing the world together.

Then I guess what they were missing on that episode is having the actress that played Victoria, play the wife of the elderly man. But I guess you are right about that assumption, I really just wished that we could have seen her reaction to knowing that Diego and Zorro are the same.
