Skye and Tarquin

In later episodes, Diana babysits Geoffrey and Marion's vile kids, Skye and Tarquin, but in the first episode they take Tom to Bayview and three children - two boys and a girl - get out of the car. Was this just an oversight?

I would think so. The first episodes had the children well behaved so yes, I would think this was an oversight.

They just showed the episode you speak of here where I live, and I too wondered about the kids. I remembered the boy being upset that they had to leave his grandfather in the retirement home, and was shocked that he had become such a little prick. I agree that it was just an oversight, or someone thought of a better use for the kids and thought nobody would remember their one time appearance in the first episode. I am glad they changed them, for this one was hilarious!

OK, so what's the speed of dark?

I just remembered as well, Tom definitely refers to the boy who was upset as "Davy". I think Skye and Tarquin were much more interesting, though - I just can't imagine Geoffrey being any more of an effective parent than Marion so I can only imagine they ended up being even worse as teenagers.

In Episode One, when Tom first arrives in Bayview, he addresses the boy as "Davy" (twice) and "David."
As the children are preparing to leave, David says to Marion: "You can't leave Grandad here," which tells me that, originally, David was one of three grandchildren. But, as happens in many "pilots," characters are introduced who later are jettisoned as unnecessary.
Perhaps the writers planned to have the loving grandson David reappear in a future episode but decided against it.

I think I remember them saying that the third child was a friend who was going along for the ride (God knows why).
