Was there a production reason for the move?

I've just been rewatching the show for the first time in a long time and I've thought of two things that never crossed my mind before.

1) Was there a production reason for having Victor and Margaret move house in the opening episode of Series 2? You do hear of a lot of productions having to rebuild sets and things because they didn't think the show would be successful only for it to take off. Or was it so they could introduce the two new sets of neighbors?

2) Why did they have Patrick and Pippa move? I know obviously they wanted to get away from Victor but Margaret and Victor were round quite a lot to their new house. Normally in a TV show you would have a couple move if you were going to write the actors out.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head with the move for production reasons, I figured that exact same thing. The set for their second home is far larger and more open, allowing for better camera angles and movements. It probably had something to do with an area that was more open to filming. I wonder where the original house was located?

When Patrick and Pippa moved we do see the new neighbours in one episode.

I think having Patrick and Pippa move was possibly for little other reason that to show a bit of realism. In real life people move house, life never stays the same forever. I liked the realism in One Foot.

Also they were able to have the gag where Mr Swainey moves house and we discover he has moved merely two doors down in to Patrick and Pippa's old house lol
