Serena Southerlyn

I have previously seen lots of hate thrown at ADA Southerlyn. I don't get it. I think she is my second favorite ADA. She is beautiful, has great hair, beautiful face, terrific eyes, great figure (except for a small chest) and, last but not least, she was very professional. She is my second most favorite ADA behind Carey Lowell (ADA Jamie Ross).

I agree, I liked her as well. I think the reason she gets so much hate is that her ideas weren't always in line with the DA's office. She would frequently put her politics above putting someone behind bars. However I liked her different approach and her passion, and she was no doubt an attractive woman.

I never noticed that. I always thought their differences were based on them not giving her much respect. All the ADAs had different points of view than Jack and whomever their boss was at the time. Seems realistic to me. Everybody is not going to think and feel the same way especially with controversial cases. As long as they do their jobs effectively and efficiently, they should be free to hold any opinion they want.
Serena was always competent. Who cares what she thinks as long as she does her job.

I know! I don't get it either. Jamie is my fave too, followed by Jill Hennesy's character , then Serena then Angie, the tough Texas beauty. I wish they left Jill Hennesy on just long enough to get it on with McCoy! That would've been awesome! ;)

I wasn't sure they did or not, because of the reason you just said....The show has never been about the cops and prosecutors relationship. I just thought they'd be good together. And also, I love Jack McCoy!!! :)

Hmmmm. That is great to know! I'll have to notice more when they replay the episodes with Claire in it! You made my day!!! Thanks! :)

Man, they sure know how to do "subtle"!!

Jamie Ross (Carey Lowell) was by far my favorite ADA. After that it's a close call for most of the rest of the pack. I'd put Claire in second place, but only the Claire after Season 4 when she was rather timid and looked that way, too. Connie, Serena, and Abbie are close third, fourth, and fifth, then Abbie, Alex, and Paul further behind.

I saw a lot of Claire in Connie, especially the way her character expanded and her appearance changed after Cutter took over for Jack.

Serena and Claire were both teased a little bit about their small chests. In Season 6's "Humiliation," Claire tells Lennie she has heard of Dr. Danforth, a plastic surgeon. Lennie glances toward Claire's chest and says, "You mean *those* aren't real?"

And Serena was feeling a little glum after she went undercover to meet with a cosmetic surgeon suspected of practicing some bad medicine in Season 15's "Cut." In her consultation, he suggested "augmentation" while subtly pointing toward her chest. I thought her chest looked just fiiiiine! :p

I remember that one! And I agree, just fine. :)

I always thought Connie (DeLaGarza huh?) was a dead ringer for Pat Benatar. Except for Connie having darker hair, to me they look like twins.

I think much of the dislike is based on the actress' perceived talent level, not so much the character.

I never noticed any lack of talent in her compared to any other actor on Law & Order, or any other program or movie.

She was my favourite- she is stunning, beautiful figure and her face is mesmerising, really liked her in L&O

To be honest Serena was my least favorite besided Borja, but I didn't mind her. Borja was the only one of the assistants I didn't like and it was just because I thought she had no chemistry with anyone on the show. Connie was my favorite.

The one thing nobody mentioned was that Jamie Ross was the only one who had a child. All of the others were single women and had no problem with all the demanding hours, but Jamie was in a custody battle with her ex-husband & had to consider her time spent with her daughter (yes, she did have a live-in nanny, but that wasn't what her daughter needed most). Serena was my favorite because I had liked Elisabeth Rohm in Angel, which she left to come to Law & Order. But I had the most sympathy for Jamie. And Keith Szarabajka really played up the nasty side of the ex-husband.

I know in some other thread about ADAs I mentioned that one of the things I most liked about Ross (my favorite ADA), was that she was the only one who was a mother. Remember that episode about breastfeeding which included women lawyers and a woman judge (it was a bench trial, no jury)? Abby was the ADA on that case but I wondered how much different (and better) the episode had been if Jamie had been the ADA prosecuting the case.

I just looked up the episode, and I have to agree with you that Jamie would have been a better prosecutor. Do you remember the verdict?

I believe the judge found her guilty but I am not sure if it was on the top charge (if there were lesser included charges?). But she did mention something about the lactation counselor being partly to blame for undue pressure she placed on the baby's mom (the defendant) to breastfeed.

Those "parents" were too dumb to be believable. Not to give your screaming baby comfort and nourishment? Oh puh-leeze....
