Just caught this episode for the umpteenth time...still blows me away every time.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's a powerful episode...highly recommended. :)

First of all, shut the hell up and don't tell me what I am. I've been watching SVU for 18 years and Law and Order for over 20 years..,who are you to judge me, you troll? You're getting as bad as cardinal42.

Any fan of Law and Order would be touched by Jack McCoy in that bar after the execution, and Lennie having to go to a bar, and then the circumstances afterwards? It was touching...perhaps you're the one who isn't a true fan of this show.

reply

You are truly stupid. It was soapy melodrama. Nothing about it was touching, and hardened cops and prosecutors would not react like they did in that episode over the death of a scumbag killer. I mean Lennie Briscoe was a veteran detective who was used to seeing death every day and had investigated some brutal crimes and the murders of children and he hadn't had a drink in years and he is suddenly going to go to a bar and drink because some dirtbag rapist/killer got executed? Stupid and unrealistic. Same goes with McCoy. It was soapy, preachy junk.

Only a sappy soap opera lover who hates the death penalty and believes scum should have more rights than their victims enjoys that episode. I know a ton of L&O fans who despise Aftershock. There was nothing touching about McCoy getting drunk and ranting about his dad, it was stupid soapy melodrama and L&O always prided itself on never having any soap opera elements and not showing the characters personal lives.

reply

Be quiet, troll...you speak for no one. You have the emotional IQ of a dead fly.

reply

Why I am not surprised. Instead of responding to the points I'm making, you just make a cliche comment about my IQ and call me a troll. Typical fascist fangirl, you have to agree with everything they say or you are a troll.

Let me ask you this, what are your other favorite episodes of L&O? And why does a soapy unrealistic melodrama like Aftershock appeal to you? And do you enjoy the soapy personal drama on SVU?

reply

You are nothing but a completely negative individual. You don't realize how your posts stick out like a sore thumb. This is because you project so much of your miserable life onto everybody else on these boards. Calling people names over a TV show is pathetic. You're really sad, and I feel nothing but sorry for you.

You REALLY need to get some help. Whether or not counselling would be enough, I don't know; you may very well need medication too...

kjperes13 is not in the slightest bit angry, though it's not surprising that you're too ignorant and stupid to notice or understand that. The only angry person here is YOU. You're angry because your an ignorant imbecile who has no understanding of people WHATSOEVER and, as a result, no friends. I don't think I've EVER encountered someone as completely and utterly clueless about people as you.

It's no wonder you're too stupid and too unenlightened to understand Aftershock. It's a great episode, but someone who has so little comprehension of people obviously wouldn't understand it. The fact that you don't understand McCoy getting drunk - amongst numerous other things - proves that. I mean ... you're so incredibly stupid and insensitive that you think kjperes13 would "respond to [you] with a reasonable response" after you replied to her original comment with an idiotic and insulting post. The fact that you think she might try to have some sort of reasonable conversation with you - after your initial response - and that you think she she isn't replying with a "reasonable response" because she's angry that you disagree with her, shows just how incredibly uneducated and unsophisticated you are. I seriously suspect you are a sociopath/psychopath because you clearly lack any empathic ability, and you clearly lack any and all understanding of people. It's actually incredibly sad that you think your initial response is in ANY way acceptable, and that ANYONE might reply to it with a "reasonable response". Why on earth would she respond in ANY way to the points you're making??? Let's look at what they are shall we...

1. You (i.e. kjperes13) are not a fan.
2. Aftershock was trash.
3. It was a soap opera.
4. It was everything L&O wasn't supposed to be.
5. It was garbage.
6. The only people who like it are fangirls who like to see soap opera storylines, preachy melodrama and personal BS.

Seriously ... you ACTUALLY expect that someone - ANYONE - would respond to this pile of rubbish, which is NOTHING more than your OPINION, and has NO BASIS WHATSOEVER in fact? Do you??? Are you retarded or something? Are you really THAT far from understanding people? As I said, you REALLY need to get some help.

Oh ... and no, I am not angry. No ... I don't know kjperes13. No to whatever other idiotic things you dream up because you're too stupid to understand my motivation and think it must be something wrong with me, when in fact the WHOLE problem here is YOU. My motivation is that I am TRULY concerned about you and seriously think you need to get some help. Please go and see someone; sooner rather than later...

P.S. No ... you do not know a ton of L&O fans who despise Aftershock. You know very few people. Assuming that your real life personality is in any way similar to what we've seen here - and there's no reason to think otherwise - then you have very few friends, if any at all. Even if you do know a ton of people - in the unlikely event that you have a job it is certainly a menial one, because there's no way someone with your interpersonal skills could have any other kind, and maybe you interact with a ton of people as a result - then they avoid you like the plague because you're a sociopath with no social skills, and they certainly don't discuss Law and Order, or anything else, with you at length. Nice try but no one is buying it!

We're from the planet Duplon. We are here to destroy you.

Typical long winded drivel mixed in with cliched insults. Narrow minded moron just like your friend the OP. Just because I do not like a TV episode I am a sociopath! Wow. Just check out other posts on this board, you will find several people that dislike Aftershock and don't rewatch it. The truth is, is it was everything L&O wasn't supposed to be. L&O prided itself on not getting into the personal lives of its characters and it never had another personal episode which was a good thing.

You are a fascist. You want everyone to like the same episodes as you and when they don't like an episode you brand them a fascist.

reply

Dude, you did the same thing. You insulted the OP for liking an episode you don't, and want everyone else to agree with you about it.

reply

Why are you here? You've never posted here before? You are just following me around, you click on my profile every few days just like Susan/Kristy does and you both follow me around. The fact that you do this shows that you are obsessed with me.

reply

Just pointing out you're doing what you said the OP is doing.

reply

Didn't answer my question. Why are you clicking on my profile and following me around? It is creepy

reply

[deleted]

You are the one who's extremely obsessed. Half your posts are about me.

I would find you a threat to my safety if you weren't so comical, you are just a flaming idiot wanting to lash out at someone because you are a loser.

reply

[deleted]

What a hypocritical moron. So what, I've checked out your posting history after I noticed you stalking me to several different boards, but it least I don't go to, say, the Murder in the First board and respond to your posts with cliched insults. You do respond to my posts with attacks on several boards. So it isn't creepy for you to not only check my posting history but also stalk me around and respond to my posts, but it is creepy for me to just check your history?!! Hypocritical, fĂĽcked up bitch.

reply

[deleted]

And so will I. You are the psycho creep and anyone reading this can see that.

That episode don't bother me I love law and order

reply

I like Aftershock because it showed a different side of the principal characters.

Unlike other shows & sitcoms which tanked creatively when the show went into different, unknown areas...
... ala Seinfeld's final ep.,
... The Beverly Hillbillies going to Europe,
... Aunt Bea on The Andy Griffith Show learning to fly, hosting her own TV cooking show, et. al.,

.... the Aftershock ep. wasn't out of bounds and fit in well with the series' scene & characters.

Are you kidding me? You insulted the OP fist you f-cking idiot. So they like an episode you don't. Who cares? You did EXACTLY what you cry about others doing. The OP disagrees with you, so you attack them.

reply

[deleted]

Agreed, and that was one of the major flaws of the episode. How come they were so bothered by the death of a rapist-killer but not by the numerous dead kids and brutally murdered innocents they dealt with regularly over the years? I mean in the episode right before that, Homesick, a baby was poisoned to death, and none of the characters reacted in a way like in Aftershock.

Stupid episode all around, and it threw everything that made Law and Order unique out the window in favor of soapy, idiotic personal crap that didn't make sense. Terrible episode, and a lousy way to kill off Claire Kincaid.

reply

I put this episode up as one of the best. I especially love that they often cite this incident for many years to come. The viewing of this execution profoundly changed the entire team and it made them all think differently about their jobs. The reason they aren't as personally affected by the awful things they see each day is that they know the perpetrator is pure evil. If they end up killing that bad guy it has a purpose, usually to save their own life. In the execution, the state of NY is the one doing the killing and it just doesn't sit well after they sit there and observe it.

Concur totally.
I know some knock this ep. as it's "out of character" with the L&O "format."

As if "format" is always best all the time.
Look at how radio has declined. Same thing, all the time, everywhere. Every station in every market sounds the same. Dullsville, really...

While it's not in my Top 10 L&O ep. list, it's still a powerful ep.

I view it as "experimental" much like some later-season eps. in other great TV series.
MASH, in its final years, did "Dreams" which was wayyyy out of character with other eps.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show,
in its final season, included an episode where Lou Grant, Ted Baxter & Murray Slaughter all discussed their fantasies of marrying Mary.
An odd ep. for sure, but surely different and not "run of the mill."
