Mrs. Councillor Nugent

I just love her no nonsense style and that she was the only one who could put Hyacinth in her place.

reply

Too me Mrs Councillor Nugent represented what Hyacinth wasn't.

While both where snobs and social climbers, Hyacinth did at least have redeeming features (ie willing to help out her family and genuine affection for them - even if they did embarrass her). Mrs. Councillor Nugent represented the snob that had no time for people below her (unless she could use them) and just was particularly not nice.

reply

I didn't pick that up from her. I guess I just associated her with that particular class. Kind of like the woman from "The Grange" where Hyacinth waited outside the church to meet her to guide her to park her car, and she had those 2 dogs in her car that she told Hyacinth to walk after handing her the keys.

I think it's the air of that particular social class, a British no nonsense rather dry and direct kind of stuffy hoity toity type or arrogance that comes with blue blood and living their entire lives in wealth.

I love how she calls her Bucket and not Bouquet! 

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

reply

Not to mention that she's the only one, who gets away with pronouncing the surname in the real way.

Intelligence and purity.

I always like the episode where Mrs Councillor Nugent lets her hair down to be in Richard's naughty film. It always good to see characters take us by surprise by going against their normal nature.

reply

"Your husband makes films?" I loved that episode, especially the ending. Poor Richard.

reply

The Grange Lady with the dogs wasnt Mrs Councillor Nugent. That was another lady with her "dawgs"

reply

I know the Grange lady was not Mrs. Councilor Nugent. I was comparing aristocratic personality types of being direct, dry, snippy, abrupt and presumptive... that they have similar qualities in that regard. Just a comparison of attitudes.

I've always liked how Mrs. Nugent seems to be the only one who can get away with calling Hyacinth Mrs. Bucket to her face.
