Deayton or Guest Host?

Which episodes are funnier, the ones with Deayton, or the new ones where they have Guest Host?

reply

Deayton. A few guests hosts have come close (Alexander Armstrong, Chris Langham) but it's never been as good since Angus left.

"If you shoot this man, you die next. Repeat. If you shoot this man, you die next."

reply

Angus was BRILLIANT. I love that man.

looking back, i think deayton was better, but i think paul and ian have improved sonce he left. paul seems a lot happier now and ian gets to have a go at the host, so i think they have benefitted. however, if there was no guest hosts... there would be no more boris episodes.

WIll angus never come back to guest host, it would be great , alot better than the current line of self-advertising airheads, as long as Paul and Ian promise not to rip the piss out of him, which I guess on the basis of his last show this dream may never be realised. Ah well

Overall, I'd have to say the Deayton years. While there have been plenty of good episodes with the guest hosts that easily rank with the best of Angus' run on the show, there are also too many guest hosts who fall on their arse and straight through the floor.

Even some of the good ones - Bruce Forsythe, for example - are so gimmicky they risk capsizing the show - it becomes about THEM, not the news. Fun, like Boris, once in a while, but the novelty wears off, and the thought of either one of them presenting EVERY WEEK, as I know some people wish they would, is just mind-boggling.

Oh, yes, if a pig comes by Castle Dracula on a Tuesday, playing a banjo…

Deayton was very good and can't be matched by any of the others. I agree, it can be gimmicky though Kirsty Young is allways good. Did Deayton ever appear as a guest afterwards?

reply

No, he hasn't appeared in the show since he got fired.

reply

It's entirely dependant on which guest host it is. Some of the guests have been much better than Angus ever was but I would say the majority have been worse than him. I think HIGNFY should narrow down the people who are guest hosts to the handfull of really good ones and rotate them. Perhaps Angus could be included in that batch?

reply

I'll be the first to say that the guest host has been better. Having watched the show right from the beginning, I thought I'd stop watching after Deayton got the sack but looking back at the older shows, it's much more apparent why Paul never liked him - he's too full of himself and abysmal at improv. The show has become better since unlike when Paul left for one season - those episodes seem to have been hidden away.

reply

Angus deyton no doubt. I don't even watch the programme anymore. As far as Boris Johnson goes, the sooner that bumbling prat gets off t.v the better.
