You see I disagree. If they brought her on again (for example in the event that everyone else died), and the writers had time to feed the teams jokes about her total unsuitability for the job, it might work. Might.
But last night Hislop and Merton tried to make jokes about her inappropriate attitude to presenting, yet were stymied every time by her, um, inappropriate attitude to presenting. It's hard to make jokes about someone if they won't let you get a word in. They made it clear she was killing all the fun, but never really capitalised on it.
For example Merton's reply to her question about what makes TV more relaxing: playing it in slow-motion. I was waiting for a gag about her laboured, half-speed delivery, but it never came.
I'll agree that the boys gave a valiant effort but by the end she'd well and truly succeeded in making that episode the joyless bore she'd intended.

Ian and Paul do tend to bully their guest presenters if they see any weakness, Paul especially. Exceptions are made if the presenter is liked, or fights back, but there are times when Paul's scorn or contempt is very obvious, and he's not a merciful antagonist.
It's uncomfortable to watch sometimes, but it also makes the show quite edgy and amusing. And the times when a presenter successfully hits back against Merton are very funny.
I didn't think it was that bad. I couldn't watch it every week, but for an episode at least it broke up the formula a bit. HIGNFY, although funny, is incredibly predictable and formulaic and having a presenter rip it up a bit was actually rather refreshing.
My God, did I just call Ann Widdecombe refreshing?
Personally I think Alexander Armstrong is the best guest host and if they were ever to consider having a permanet host again he should be the one. Who's hosting it tonight?
