Alexander Armstrong - please make him permanent host

Here are my reasons.

He is easily the best they've ever had; he is also the right sort of person. He is witty, intelligent, likeable and a good mix of Paul and Ian.
He is consistantly brilliant and makes the dynamic work.

I think at one point he was going to be made proper host, but the deal wasn't done in the end and Armstrong was really disappointed. They need to make one person the host for real now, because if it goes on the way it is, HIGNFY will die off in the end. That would be a terrible shame.

I reckon Alexander Armstrong is the man. Several are excellent; but he, I think, is the best.

I agree.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm a bit tired of the guest presenters. They seem to have as many bad ones and good these days.

i thought this too, he really is the best guest presenter they've had. others have come close (ie- dara o'briain), but alexander armstrong is clearly the best suited for the job.

What's that? You just called me a bastard didn't you!

He's a likeable Angus in many ways. He has the posh accent, and the necessary smugness, but he doesn't take himself nearly as seriously. (Nor do I think he's a coke and hooker kinda guy, but then I made that assumption once before.)

Agreed. At least when they have a bad guest, they can edit them out to a large extent, or just ignore them, but the bad presenters can't be cut out so easily.

It's as if the whole point of the show these days is "who is the guest presenter, are they good, are they bad, and does the show become all about them?" Even when it's an entertainingly mad guest host, like Brian Blessed, whom I love, I find it slightly wearing: I'm waiting for them to shut up and just read the questions.

It's almost as if HIGNFY is not about the humour or the satire or the news anymore... it's as if nobody even cares about the actual stories. Certainly in several recent shows I've seen, Paul in particular looks bored and seems to spend a lot of time bitching about the crappy jokes the poor guest host has to read out.

I think the novelty of having guest hosts has worn off, and now it might be more novel to have a new host and see if the team captains can forge a new dynamic with that person. Armstrong would be a good choice; Kirsty Young would be great too. Dara O'Briain, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Martin Clunes jump to mind as pretty good options.

Now cure me of my madness or I won't put my shoes on, ever.

Out of all the guest hosts, he's the only one I could cope with being the permanent presenter
