Robert Peston - why drop him?

A few weeks ago the TV listings mentioned he would appear on the show, but they-(don't know if 'they' are the programme makers or serious bods at the BBC) changed their minds.

I read that somebody thought that it would be a bad move for him to be on a comedy news quiz whilst the economic crisis deepens and they didn't want him sat there laughing at it all. Or something to that effect.

Surely, he is the man of the moment, news-wise?

Who else would like to see HIGNFY rebook him for some time later this series?

reply

I think he dropped out when he started to get into hot water about his statements about the HBOS/Lloyds merger!

reply

Hmmm. Hislop would probably have a lot of fun firing him with questions!

As we're throwing around various theories, how about this: Alexander Armstrong was on the verge of being the new COuntdown host, only to change his mind - after hosting HIGNFY, where Pauil Merton spent half the show ripping the piss out of him for it.

Coincidence?
