why did this show become more popular after it ended?

just find it interesting how some shows are more popular after they have ended.

Syndication.

You seem to be underestimating how popular this show was when it was on, though. It hasn't really became more well known or anything since it ended 20 years ago. Just younger audiences discovering it.

Yeah I could have sworn I read somewhere that the only reason the show picked back up for the last few seasons is that they saw the value of how the first few were syndicated so successfully.

People know who Will Smith is and want to see where he got his start. Those born after 1992

reply

Don't forget his rap career before Fresh Prince. He wrote the anthem for my generation "Parents Just Don't Understand ". Fresh Prince was very popular when it was on.

reply

Yes it was I was 8 years old in 1990 and enjoying this show and my cousin he was 6 and we both loved watching this show.

reply

It was thanks to syndication. I was born in 1992 and didn't watch the show until I was about eight. It played all the time on BBC 2 and carried on being shown there for years. I've just started re-watching the show on Netflix, I'm glad as well as I had forgotten how much I loved this show.

Well, that happens a lot. Once a show goes into syndication, it is on more than once a week and now they have two episodes showing in a row these days. People are able to catch it more this way, plus people who didn't catch it when it originally aired. What's wrong with that?

reply

Syndication, rise of Will Smith, catchy theme song that a lot of people know even if they never saw the show.
