Baton Rouge and Chimes Street

Any one else from Baton Rouge? I attended LSU when the movie was being shot- I used to go to the Bayou (it has recently burned down). Andie McDowell walks by a grafitti filled wall. I have walked past that same wall a million times. I believe it was on the side of the Bayou. The bar was on Chimes Street. Only BR people know what I am talking about.

I had no idea this had been filmed in Baton Rouge! I'm enrolled at LSU right now, and now that I think of it, I know exactly what bar you're talking about. That's so awesome!

I've only seen this movie once.... when it first came out. I had just moved to Connecticut from LA. I'm from LA and born in Baton Rouge. I didn't know the film was filmed there. But in one scene that is filmed outside the home of Andie McDowell's character, I told my husband that looks like a home you'd find in Baton Rouge. Then we noticed how much some of the scenery reminded us of home. So we watched the credits and then saw that sure enough, it was filmed in BR.

I attended LSU in the early 90s, shortly after SL&V came out-- Best time of my life, before I flunked out... Anyway, I didn't frequent the Bayou (only popped in once or twice), I was more of a Sports and The Tiger guy.. I did love to eat at The Chimes, though (remember "Around the World"?) and I loved Louie's, which was located behind The Bayou.. I remember there was another bar called The Library on the same street, so you could tell people you were going to the library when you were really going to drink... Other BR places of note included:. The Happy Note on Florida Blvd. (strongest and cheapest drinks ever!), a country bar called, I think, The Texas Club; .Snorkel's in Tigerland, .Fred's and Ernie's (though I never went to those two b/c you had to be 21), and, of course, Tiger Stadium.... back in those days, the legal drinking age in the state of Louisiana was only 18 years old (till 1995) and we took full advantage of it........... GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Have been to the Bayou more times than I care to mention in my early 20's. Was visiting friends who lived on Ivanhoe St. when the scene was being shot outside the Bayou. Didn't get to see any of the actors but did get to see Soderbergh and crew setting up the cameras, lighting, etc.

Went to Chimes a lot, but I guess the Bayou must've burned while I was there or shortly before I got to BR.
So yea, the wall w/ grafitti on it that says "dis is Baton Rouge", I never saw that on Chimes St, was it on the Chimes Bar side of Dalrymple or the other side?

It's the alley between Tequilla's (formerly the Bayou) and North Gate Tavern (formerly the Library). It's now painted bright bright yellow, but there are several old alleys on Chimes still painted in that original green that Andie walks by.

I attended LSU from 1950-53 which makes me close in age to Methuselah and probably much beyond most of you younger fellers' times. I spent many a day in the old Chimes pool hall on Chimes Street. I happened recently upon the DVD of SL&V and upon viewing it had an almost instantaneous deja vu of Baton Rouge before learning that Soderbergh"s father taught at LSU.Although I wasn't overwhelmed with the picture (wrong generation), it brought back old times as a native Louisianan although I now live on the West Coast for over 40 years.

Spelling is fine :) I am a '84 alum and I recognized the Bayou immediately in this movie. I haven't seen it for some time, but I remember it as kinda slow, but I did like the reminders of my times at the Bayou and The Library... Kit
