WHY was Graham impotent?

In the DVD menu, the scene is conveniently titled "Why Graham is impotent," and I watched it a couple times, still a bit foggy on this? He was involved with someone named Elizabeth, and he was a compulsive liar and liked to express himself nonverbally? Were we meant to glean much from those statements, or was it being left more ambiguous? Ann didn't pry much more on that point.

you find out the other guy (peter gallagher) had sex with his then-girl friend Elizabeth whilst they were still dating

so he probably developed an inferiorty complex and became insecure

but he didn't know about Gallagher screwing his girlfriend until years later during that scene on the porch.

I was under the impression that he was a well-off trust-fund kid with major psychological issues. I think the director meant for his sexual problems to be ambiguous.

I always thought his anger and emotional problems got the better of him and he had some sort of breakdown or depression leading to impotence.

I guess , it means he could not get turn on physically , unless he is pyschologically or emotionally intimate with someone beforehand , and he tries hard to avoid any close relations as well , so he is not able to get emotionally close to anybody else. He cant make himself emotionally ready to hv sex with anyone else as in his mind he is still obessed with Elizabath n the guilt associated with her ....thats what makes him impotent ...Medically majority of impotance cases are said to be emotionally linked or due to bad childhood trauma that real physical impotancy, so he cud be one such case....
