Why did this get an 18 in the UK?????
It has PG violence, There is almost no nudity and very few swear words. The sexual dialouge is actually very very tasteful and not explicit by any means.
In answer to the question, I have no idea. I would say that there is no nudity unless one defines the amount of flesh on show at the average swimming pool as nudity.
Perhaps standards were different in 1989? It's ridiculous.

It doesn't seem right,as there are no graphic scenes in this film,but perhaps it was given that certificate because of the discussions the characters had.Even so,i think it should only be certificate 15,as i don't think it's bad enough to be 18.

if the age of consent is 16 how can you justify showing a movie entirely about sex to 15yr olds?

Seriously, sex doesn't hurt anybody and they don't even show it, just talk about. Everybody who is too young for sex would urn off this movie after 15 minutes anyway because s/he would be bored to hell. Anyone who is in puberty should at least be allowed to talk about sex.
