possible mistake?

At the end when the contestants are playing Mario Bros 3, they are screaming at Jimmy to find a warp. If we are to believe that the games was presented for the first time there and hadn't been played before how could they know of the existence of the warp flute?

reply

Not sure if it is a mistake. The characters could possibly assume that there is a way to find a warp since there were ways in the previous 2 games.

It's most definitely a mistake/plot hole. There is no reasonable way Jimmy could've known where the passageway was (although I suppose you could deduce that he figured out that when you get a leaf you're supposed to find something up high, and I'd have been really suspicious if he knew to drop behind the white block in 1-3 lol). However there's no way for Haley or Corey to know that the whistle opens the warp. Also the fact that he knew how to use the whistle is suspicious.. No prior Mario game had the pre-level powerup menu. Nor did any previous game have the 'slot machine' at the end, so why were they insisting on him getting the star?

There were just too many things that they all knew about for it to be a game that 'nobody had ever seen before'...

No, it's a definite mistake. She specifically mentioned a warp whistle, which did not exist in the previous games. Hailey not only knows what it is, but she knows where to find it. Which she could not possibly know.

Unless there's a scene that hints at this, then it was definitely a mistake. I bet some of the kids wondered about the very same thing.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

I talked about that on my podcast in our last episode. They keep screaming about the warp whistle, and they even seem to know what it is but that shouldn't be possible since this was the first time anyone outside of Nintendo was seeing the game.

One of my cohosts tried to argue that maybe she had talked to someone about it on the Nintendo Helpline, but that doesn't work because she was only getting information on games Jimmy was practicing on.

THE US IS NOT THE CENTER OF THE WORLD. They have had 7 months, 1 week and 6 days to find out if we think the date of this is when filming began. 9 months and 2 days if you consider when filming ended. And 1 year 1 month 3 weeks and 1 day if you consider the date of the Videogame Armageddon is the same day the movie was released, in the later case it would be 1 month 3 weeks and 4 days before people in North America could access the game. 6 months and 2 weeks and a day between the filming ended and the game's release in NA and 8 months 4 days between the filming started and the game's released in NA.

I will go with the idea that viewers couldn't date the events of the movie to any point in time previous to it being on screen, nor to any point in time after the game was released in NA...

So they have had 1 year 1 month 3 weeks and 1 day headstart to find about this, even if they were not looking for this data, they could have simply been informed by videogame magazines, it is quite obvious Haley is into them and they tend to mention games before release inasmuch as it is possible, so the magazine writers could have played the Japanese version and mentioned some details about what they found out. A sneak peek. And The Wizard must have picked videogaming somewhere, Corey seemed to like videogmes based on dialogue, but the oldest sibling seemingly loved them based on the fact that he new how to repair a nintendo and did so to play along the way.

Like in rain man his autism affords him super human abilities. He's an idiot savant as layed out in the movie; he never played video games but slayed. He could have telepathically sent them the thought of warp whistles ? them yelling about it was an oops but him knowing about it was built into his character with his characters development.
