Ending?
What happens at the end? Leonard Maltin says its a bummer.
shareWell, Hooch is shot and dies at the vet's. Turner realizes how much he's come to love the mutt and breaks down; then, at the epilog, we find out that Hooch had been getting frisky with the vet's collie, and the result was a puppy that somewhat resembles Hooch (although not nearly as disgusting). I'm a sentimental fool, and I cried.
shareDon't watch the end...that's all i have to say.....If you get emotional about animals that is.

It's so sad, but lovely how one of the puppies is just like Hooch!

Yep, I love dogs and didn't like the bit with Hooch dying (even though it was
only a film) but I liked the bit with his new lookalike Pup at the end. A nice
way to end the film I thought.
Personally, I can't take it when dogs die in movies. For the film though, it sort of works- you get to feel how much Hanks' character really cared for Hooch at the end. You also see this admiration with Hanks choosing to keep ALL of his puppies (not just the 'Hooch' of the litter). Kind of a bittersweet ending but not a complete downer.
shareIt was definitely bittersweet. But for him to die it made the film really real and honest I felt. Animals do die and are killed sadly, to save Hooch would have been stretching reality in ways. It really is so sad, but this film obviously appeals to animal/dog lovers and for them to see this scene would allow many to relate.
