Wasn't Henry Winkler fired as director?

I read that Tom Hanks had Henry Winkler fired from the film as the director. Is this true, and why? Pretty harsh. I read an interview with Winkler, and I vaguely remember him saying he was really upset about being fired by Hanks. Thanks for any info about this.

think Hank-man and the Fonze didn't get-along.. but also heard that 'dir. Winkler' blew it by mouthing-off to prospective shooting location entities, ie: the Caramel Town Assembley - Henry lost credibility down in Dirty Harry country and Hanks', a silent-partner/producer complained about the delays. True story..!

Where did you hear that?

I've read that the two didn't get along during the making of it. Winkler was quoted as saying, "I got along better with Hooch than with Turner."

But hey, not everyone can always get along.

Unless Tom Hanks was producer or executive producer on this movie, he personally could not have fired Henry Winkler.

Hanks had just had a huge success with the movie "Big" so I would think if the main star wasn't getting along with the director then the people with power catered to him. It's not as if Winkler was a well respected director at the time.

Yeah, I guess you could say Big was "bigger" than the Fonz at that time.

Fonz and Tom Hanks' character fought on the 1982 "A Case Of Revenge" episode of "Happy Days". Ron Howard was impressed with Hanks and decided to cast him in the movie "Splash".

This is true. Winkler appeared on the Howard Stern show in 2014. Even tho he wouldn't say his name, he did say 1 of the main actors and him had a proplem in the past and he threaten to walk. So Winkler was let go.
