I don't remember my first time but I can guarantee you that I watch this movie today and I do now

What does trashing the house have to do with it,?

you never cried at all when an animal dies on screen?

Have you seen Old Yeller, did you cry?

What if it were Beethoven the dog that died in that family movie, would you cry?

what if it were your own dog that trashed your house while you were away and something happens to it, then would you cry?

Just saw the film last night for the first time and I'm pretty good about not crying in films. But something about Hanks's crying just broke me. I cried too. I couldn't believe they'd killed the dog, but Hanks didn't wail like most people in movies. It was a total brokenhearted sobbing. I think that's why I lost it. I cry like that.
