Did it really deserve Best Picture at Cannes in '89?

Though Shelley Long certainly deserved her Best Actress award at Cannes that year for her extraordinary comedic work on "Troop Beverly Hills", some feel the best picture should have gone to Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" that year. Said Spike Lee at the time "Movie about rich white lady cleans up at Cannes. Who couldn't have expected that?"

Definitely a classic. Shelley Long is a comedy genius!

I feel Betty Thomas was criminally wronged for not receiving a Best Supporting Actress award for TBH. She and Shelley were both trained in Second City.

I don't think it was 'best' even as a little kid. But it does show that Phyllis made something of herself, bonded with the girls, and was a far nicer person than the 'experienced' Wilderness Girls staff member.
