I don't understand the bad reviews...

Can anyone speak to why this move has such a low rating (~4.5 stars)? Movies of this kind aren't intended to be the next Godfather, but they're certainly funny and feel-good.

Characters like Phyllis, Velda, Annie, and all of the girls epitomize classic, silly, no-worries comedy. I enjoyed watching this movie as a kid and, even now, pop it in the DVD player from time to time for a few laughs.

Regardless, I don't see why everyone seems to hate this movie so much. Like I said, it's not intended to be Academy Award material and it never claims to be. It sends a great message to kids while being humorous and different.

Can anyone comment on this? Also, what's your favorite part in the movie? Two of my favorite moments are 1) The opening cartoon (I love it!) and 2) When Phyllis tells her scary story while the kids are holed up in the Beverly Hills Hotel.

I agree with you entirely but if you look at any of the reviews of Shelley Long films they always seem to give her the big NO NO. The parts I particularly like in this film were the street disco with the young Tina Turner look alike and the great disco dancing by the other young ones and of course Shelley heraelf singing. The other part was in the retirement home when whe was dancing with the older people seemed totally spontaneous. A truly lovely and enjoyable family film.

I don't even recall any reveiws of it, at all. I saw it on Cable, a couple of years after its release. I think that it was a clever concept, and that it was very well acted.

To me, Phyllis' "unique" interpretation of the badges, was hilarious...

-Manicure/pedicure/make-up for "personal hygene."

-Precious gem-stone settings for "geology."

-"Describing fall-fashions to the blind," for "community service."

Yeah, I know - certainly not a masterpiece, but it wasn't THAT bad. There aren't too many movies out these days directed towards young girls. This is one of those movies where parents can comfortably watch with their daughters and be reasonably entertained, without worrying about embarrassing sex scenes. This movie came out when I was 11, and it's just sad to know that when my daughter is 11, there won't be anything like this in the theater for us to go see together.

this is absolutely my favorite movie from childhood. I was about 8 when it came out, and I still watch it all the time. I can't even name my favorite part.. I love it all. when they sing "cookie time" and when Jasmine does the whole monologue when her dad gets pulled over by the cop. love it.

Pure snobbery. Also a fav of my 80's youth. I used to want to be Hannah because she had the balance beam in her house. How neat is that? My 2 favorite things about TBH, how she totally Phyllis redoes the uniform, with the hat and the cape (and Velda's reaction to her at the meeting)and the b-lister cameos at the cookie function like Gopher and wasn't Cheech Marin there?
